Lottery Grants
UPDATE ON LOTTERY GRANTS - 10/09/2026
This is our understanding of the new application process for a Lottery Grant
Fill out this form: Lottery Fund application form - equipment for people with a disability
And email it to: disabilityequipment@dia.govt.nzYou will need to include with your application some "letters of support" for "Community Participation Evidence"
An Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist or other suitably qualified health professional completes this form: 'Equipment Needs Assessment' They must email this independent of your application to the same email address above with your name in the subject header.
When requesting an amount it would pay to estimate $70,000. (i.e. $45,000 towards a van and $25,000 towards van modifications). This is an estimate only, and will be updated once a formal assessment is undertaken.
Two quotes are not required at this stage, as the application is for a specialist transport assessment. You can write: 'TBC by the specialist transport occupational therapist upon completion of the specialist Transport Assessment.' Once an assessment is approved, the Occupational Therapist will confirm your needs and gets quotes for exactly what vehicle and vehicle modifications is required. Note: If you: - Are under 16 - Do not work full time or to the maximum of your medical capacity - Do not study at tertiary level full time or to the maximum of your medical capacity - Are not the primary caregiver of a child under 13 years old Then you are NOT eligible for funding via any other source. So please say this in your application (when it asks this question). Obviously if you have an ACC claim, this needs to be declared in the application.
Once the application is with the Lottery Committee we then wait for approval for a specialist transport assessment.
